Things to Do Near Casa Mango
Santa Teresa rewards a slow morning by the infinity pool and an afternoon of pura vida adventure. From Casa Mango — a quiet, ocean-view perch on the north side of town, about a five-minute walk to the beach — you’re close to some of Costa Rica’s best surf, jungle trails, and Pacific day trips.
Our concierge is here to make it easy. Tell us what you’re in the mood for — surf lessons, private yoga on the Mango deck, Activo Fitness Center workouts, horseback rides, fishing, bioluminescence kayaking, canopy tours, and more — and we’ll help arrange trusted local experiences around your schedule.
Surf lessons
Santa Teresa’s beach breaks are among the most consistent on the Nicoya Peninsula — warm water year-round and waves that work for first-timers through advanced surfers. Local instructors offer group and private lessons with boards and rash guards typically included, plus guiding when you’re ready to chase quieter peaks.
Beginners are very welcome; most lessons start on the sand before entering the water. Sessions often run about 70–90 minutes and are timed to tide and conditions. Casa Mango sits toward the north end of Santa Teresa; the main beach breaks are a short ride south along the beach road.
Ask our concierge: Share ages and experience levels and we’ll match you with a lesson and a good time of day.
Private yoga on the Mango deck
Ease into the day with a private yoga instructor on Casa Mango’s ocean-view deck — birdsong, Pacific light, and the sound of the surf as your backdrop. Sessions can be tailored for beginners, couples, or more experienced practice, and scheduled around your mornings or sunsets at the villa.
Ideal if you prefer privacy over a studio class, or you’re traveling with family and want something on-site. Mixed levels welcome with modifications. You can also join group classes in town if you’d rather practice with a larger group.
Ask our concierge: Tell us preferred style (gentle, vinyasa, restorative, etc.), group size, and time of day — we’ll arrange a private instructor for the Mango deck.
Horseback riding
Ride through jungle paths, quiet beaches, and hillside viewpoints above Mal País and Santa Teresa. Tours suit most experience levels — from gentle beach rides to longer outings toward quieter coastline at sunrise or late afternoon.
Good for beginners and families when you choose a gentle pace; let us know if anyone is new to horses. High season (roughly late December–February and Easter) fills early, so it’s worth planning ahead. Stables and trailheads are typically a short drive from the villa.
Ask our concierge: Preferred length (about 1–3 hours) and time of day, and we’ll help lock in a ride.
ATV adventures
Dirt roads, hidden beaches, and waterfall day trips are part of the Santa Teresa adventure. Self-drive ATV rentals are a common way to get around (roads are mostly unpaved), and guided tours head into the jungle, to Montezuma waterfalls, or quieter stretches of the peninsula.
A valid driver’s license is typically required for rentals; helmets are usually provided. Guided tours are better if you want local routes without navigating alone. High season fills early. Most routes are a short-to-moderate drive south of Casa Mango’s north-Santa Teresa location.
Ask our concierge: Self-drive days or a guided tour, and how many people — we’ll arrange what’s right for your group.
Spa & massage
After surf or travel days, unwind with therapeutic massage — deep tissue, sports, Thai, or restorative work. Onsite massage is available at Casa Mango as a villa upgrade, so you can stay poolside without leaving the property. We can also help with trusted local wellness options in town.
Book early in high season. In-villa sessions are especially convenient for families or after late flights.
Activo Fitness Center is walking distance from Casa Mango. Guests can use gym equipment, join workout classes, and recover with a cold plunge and sauna — a convenient option when you want a real workout without driving into town.
Ask our concierge: Onsite massage at the villa, or a recommendation in town — tell us what you prefer.
Sport fishing & boat days
The Pacific off Santa Teresa and Mal País offers inshore fishing (roosterfish, snapper, jacks) and full-day offshore charters for tuna, mahi-mahi, sailfish, and more. Many boats leave from nearby harbors with ground transfer from Santa Teresa. Isla Tortuga snorkeling is the classic full-day boat trip — lunch, clear water, and time on the beach. Private catamaran-style days can be arranged for a more spacious outing.
Half-day inshore suits beginners and families; full-day offshore needs more sea time. Captains adapt to wind and conditions. Transfers are typically under about an hour and a half depending on pickup. Isla Tortuga is usually a full day with Santa Teresa pickup.
Ask our concierge: Fishing (inshore vs offshore, group size), Isla Tortuga, or a private boat day — share dates and ages and we’ll arrange it.
Kayaking & bioluminescence
Calm Gulf of Nicoya waters near Paquera are ideal for nighttime kayaking when the water sparkles with bioluminescence. It’s a magical, low-key adventure — splash a paddle and watch the plankton light up like underwater fireworks.
No advanced kayaking experience required for guided tours; life jackets are provided. Best on darker nights (new moon windows show the glow most clearly). Paquera is on the gulf side of the peninsula — plan on a transfer from Santa Teresa (often about an hour, depending on pickup and road conditions).
Ask our concierge: Bioluminescence kayak or boat — we’ll arrange dates and transfer.
Scuba diving & freediving
The Pacific reefs off Santa Teresa and Mal País offer scuba diving and freediving for beginners through certified divers — Discover Scuba experiences, full certifications, and fun dives when conditions allow. Tide-pool beaches nearby are a gentler way to peek at marine life without a full boat day.
Good for first-timers with a certified instructor; experienced divers should bring certification cards. Ocean conditions vary — operators choose sites based on visibility and swell. Dive shops are typically in the Santa Teresa–Mal País area, a short ride from the villa.
Ask our concierge: Try diving, certification course, or fun dives for your group — share experience levels and dates.
Tide pools & coastal exploring
Between Santa Teresa and Mal País, low tide reveals natural rock pools — warm seawater, crabs, small fish, and a natural aquarium feel along volcanic coastline. It’s a favorite family outing when timed right, with no ticket booth and a short ride south from Casa Mango.
Go around low tide (roughly 30–60 minutes before the lowest point is often ideal); check a local tide chart that day. Wear reef shoes — rocks are slippery and urchins live here. Avoid rising tide and big swell. Bring water, a hat, and optional snorkel mask. Roughly 10–15 minutes south by road from central Santa Teresa; a bit longer from Casa Mango’s north end.
Ask our concierge: We’ll help you read the tide calendar for your stay and suggest the best window.
Canopy & zip line
Fly through the treetops near Cabo Blanco or Montezuma — forest platforms, long cables, and (on some routes) ocean views. One popular option sits near the entrance to Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve; another ends near Montezuma’s waterfalls.
Suitable for most ages with typical weight and height limits — we’ll confirm with the operator. Mal País routes are roughly a 15–25 minute drive south from north Santa Teresa; Montezuma is farther (about 45+ minutes). Morning slots are popular.
Ask our concierge: Prefer the closer Mal País canopy or the Montezuma waterfall route — we’ll help you pick and book.
Montezuma waterfalls & Cabo Blanco
A half-day or day trip south brings you to Montezuma’s jungle waterfalls (swim spots and viewpoints) and Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve — wildlife, trails, and quieter coastline. Some guests combine these with horseback or ATV outings.
Wear sturdy shoes; trails can be muddy in green season. Cabo Blanco has access rules and hours. Montezuma is about 45 minutes from Santa Teresa depending on road conditions; Cabo Blanco / Cabuya is closer via the Mal País side.
Ask our concierge: Independent visit tips or a guided combo — happy to help plan the day.
Private chef & in-villa dining
Stay in for a meal with a private chef at Casa Mango — market-fresh Costa Rican and international cooking served on your terrace or outdoor dining area, with the ocean view as the centerpiece. Pair it with midweek housekeeping and concierge help for a seamless villa rhythm.
Ideal for celebration nights, families with kids, or evenings when you’d rather not head into town. Share dietary needs and preferred cuisine style when you inquire.
Ask our concierge: Dates, headcount, and any allergies or preferences — we’ll arrange a private chef night at the villa.
Dining & evenings
Santa Teresa’s food scene is international and surprisingly strong for a surf town — beachfront sunsets, sushi, smokehouse, vegetarian-forward cafés, and classic Costa Rican sodas. Nights are laid-back: sunset drinks and live music or DJs a few nights a week, not mega-clubs.
Reserve popular dinners in high season. Quieter sunset spots are especially convenient from Casa Mango’s north-end location; livelier evenings cluster more toward the central beach road (a short ride south). We’ll happily suggest places that fit your mood and help with reservations when useful. Arrange a taxi or designated driver if you’ll be tasting cocktails.
Ask our concierge: Restaurant ideas, reservations, or a “what’s on tonight” nudge once you’re here.
Our concierge service is here for the logistics — private yoga on the Mango deck, surf lessons, horseback rides, ATV days, fishing, spa, canopy tours, bioluminescence kayaking, diving, and island trips.
